  • Happy lunar new year! Threw our annual Kaigong party on Monday where we ate, danced, and sang our way to an even better year ahead. Huat ah!
  • Had our annual safety day over the weekend where employees, clients, and families come together for an afternoon of learning, fun and games. The theme was “Together, we can be faster and safer” and highlighted the importance of working together to deliver safer operations for a faster construction.

CEO Charles said in his opening address, “We have to take care of ourselves and each other, and build a better safety culture together. Everyone has a role to play in making HSL safe.”
.
Project teams C1 and C2 pooled their resources and put up an entertaining and educational skit on the futility of “cheating” the WICA law; our subsidiaries Mighty and Steadfast put up interesting, engaging and informative booths for the crowd. #SafetyNeverSleeps
  • On Tuesday, we hosted a group of energetic and bright students from the University of Twente, the Netherlands, who visited Singapore to discover what our government, corporations and communities are doing towards a sustainable future. As a small, densely populated island nation with no natural resources, Singapore’s sustainable development has focused on four key areas: building a sustainable economy; creating a sustainable living environment; ensuring sustainable development for our people; and contributing to international collaboration.
.
In an earlier published article, President Halimah Yacob said, “Singapore and the Netherlands have a longstanding friendship and they continue to share strong economic ties and a similar outlook on the world. We are both outward-looking countries with open economies and world-class ports and airports, and the two countries are the gateways to our respective regions.”
.
CEO Charles was happy to take their questions, and our technical manager Santosh also gave a brief introduction to lean construction methodology, as well as how we use technology to help us be more efficient in our project management. As an engineering and construction company, we are well positioned to deliver solutions that can contribute to a sustainable world. Thank you for choosing us as one of the companies to visit during your two-week stay! We wish you a fabulous time in Singapore and safe return home after a meaningful and fulfilling trip.
  • You might have seen in the papers about the great tortoise migration - 500 residents of the Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum were moved from their original home in Chinese Gardens to Orto (Yishun) last week.

Our subsidiary company, Steadfast Engineering and Construction (SFEC), volunteered 13 of their staff to help move over 40 species of the turtles, tortoises, and other terrapins over several trips, the oldest of which is more than 40 years.

Ye Genjin, GM of SFEC, said, “As a civil marine construction company, we build jetties and other marine structures that require us to work closely with the marine environment. Being able to help relocate these turtles is meaningful to us because these creatures are part of marine life and we are happy to give back to the community so close to our hearts. Our recently launched Artificial Reef project was also a fantastic opportunity for us to understand the marine ecosystem better.”
.
The new museum will be 10% bigger than the Chinese Gardens location. It will also have bigger pens for the animals. Do look out for their soft opening at the end of the month! (Entrance fees are $10) More information may be found at their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/turtlemuseumsg/
  • Season’s greetings from everyone at HSL! p.s. check out the full version of the video at our facebook page :)
  • Celebrated with our founder and chairman Mr Lim as he crossed his 74th birthday today.

Having lived and experienced so much especially for an avid traveller and a voracious student of spirituality, Mr Lim took the opportunity to share a tiny nugget of wisdom with us: that our lives are in our hands and we must make the most of every day. Live our lives not by default, but by design. Today is the best day of our lives, because yesterday is over and tomorrow is not certain. We are the authors of our own life stories! So what kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

Did you know that the name “HSL” comes from our founders’ names? The “L” in “HSL” is a tribute to Mr Lim. Let us wish him all the best and thank him for the wonderful legacy he has left behind with the birth of the company 24 years ago. Happy birthday, Mr Lim!
  • Had a fantastic time over the weekend celebrating our workers during our Workers' Dinner 2018! More than 500 showed up for a fun-filled evening of lights, music and hand-to-hand combat - keeping to the theme, "Unity is strength: Together, we engineer a better world", the two teams Tuggernaut (Steadfast) and PCS Tigers (A+) put up a fierce fight in the final tug-of-war showdown that's seen many weeks of intense training.

Kudos to the organising committee who put up a showstopping event that brought tons of cheer and laughter. And to our workers who slog day and night to build real things out of beautiful dreams - thank you for your hard work!

Shoutout to @_ridh1 for the pics and amazing tug of war video
  • Happy to launch the World’s 1st Coralminium - a condominium for coral reefs - today at Sisters’ Island! This artificial reef project is a great testament to what we can achieve together when private, public, academia, marine biologist and NGOs collaborate to contribute their expertise to a meaningful cause.
.
A total of 8 structures (Sanctua-Reefs) will be lowered into the seabed to create Singapore’s largest artificial reef habitat.
.
We are very grateful to JTC and NParks for this opportunity to co-create an environment for the marine ecosystem to thrive and flourish.
