Meranti Retention Pond with Landscape and Biodiversity Features

Meranti, Jurong Island

The retention pond will serve as a water catchment for 80 Ha of surrounding land during extreme stormwater events and increase flood resilience in Jurong Island.

Designed as nature-based solution, the pond will not be lined with impervious materials but instead integrate with Jurong Island’s existing natural sandy terrain. Rainwater from extreme stormwater events will overflow into the pond and seep through to be collected and retained in the island’s underground freshwater lens.

Trees, shrubs and herbs will be planted to promote biodiversity and wildlife and create a natural eco-system. Excavated sandy materials will also be explored for concrete batching.

We are very excited to be part of the efforts to co-create an industrial estate that is more conducive and attractive, while reinforcing the concept of sustainability in Jurong Island. We also see this as a great opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the environment and community where some of our operations are located.

Our subsidiary Steadfast will be managing this project and we look forward to continuing our excellent safety track record and quality performance to deliver a successful project.
