Why HSL?

HSL is a frontrunner in marine civil engineering and has successfully completed a number of exciting civil projects which attracted me a lot.

What did you enjoy most during your internship?

Site visit. It provided a chance for me to see how construction is performed in practice and transfer the domain knowledge to practical techniques.

How have you applied what you learnt in school?

C1 project is more relevant to geotechnical engineering. The theoretical knowledge that I have learnt in school helped me to familiarise and understand the construction work faster, which allowed me to contribute better.

What have you learnt and how has it benefited you?

I have learnt more about project planning. Sometimes, plans and designs may not be followed exactly as site conditions are always changing. Adjustment is important to ensure the work efficiency on site. Other than technical skills, immersing in the work environment for several months was also a great opportunity to experience the working culture and acquire many soft skills, which are not possible to learn in school. All of the above will be helpful to my future career development.
