History & Milestones

The history of HSL is woven around the vision and passion of its founding directors. Since its inception in 1994, HSL has grown from a small start-up to become a dynamic group of companies standing at the forefront of engineering and construction. Above and beyond its success, however, lies a track record which reflects a relentless quest for innovative engineering solutions and construction excellence.

HSL Constructor Founded

1994

HSL Constructor was founded with Mr Lim Choo Leng as Managing Director.

First Marine Project

1995

Seawater Intake Station and Upgrade / revamp of Wharf 6 at Pulau Bukom for Shell Eastern Petroleum Limited

First Jetty Project

1996

Awarded first jetty project at Pulau Ayer Merbau (PCS)

ISO Safety & Quality

1999

Achieved ISO Safety & Quality Certification

Expanded Business

2000

Expanded business in the process industry; won a major contract with ExxonMobil

Successfully penetrated into all major plants

2003

Jurong Island

Positioned for Exponential Growth

2006

Invested in a 100,000 sqf factory at 5 Gul Lane. FY 2007 – S$17m

Revenue > S$50M

2007

Revenue exceeded S$50 million for the first time. Established Hsing Loong Management Pte Ltd (Logistics subsidiary)

Employee Strength of 800

2008

Employee strength grew to 800, up from 100 in 2006, with major investments in marine equipment and capability-building

Launched Work-Life Balance Program

2008

Established subsidiaries in India & Malaysia

2009

Successfully completed major projects in Shell and ExxonMobil; Established subsidiaries in India and Malaysia

First Overseas project in Myanmar

2010

Established ground engineering subsidiary; Awarded first overseas project, in Myanmar

Major Rebranding Exercise

Secured Project Sum of $80M in Jurong Island

2011

Secured major GMR Energy CCP Project, SKEC S’pore Jurong Aromatics Complex Project and SLNG Project (total project sum in Jurong Island S$80m). Groundbreaking of New HSL Waterfront Development at Penjuru, invested amount $55m. Set up Verdeland Pte Ltd.

Launched SE Asia’s Largest Piling Barge

2012

Won 3 WSH SHARP Awards. Established Energy Management System and was the 2nd Company in Singapore to successfully achieved ISO 50001. Launched SE Asia’s largest piling barge. Awarded piling contract for SE Asia’s largest container port, in Indonesia. Signed agreement with Ningbo counterpart on technical and facility cooperation. Set up Nautilus Pte Ltd.

Completion of HSL Global HQ

2013

Completion of the new HSL Global HQ located at 42D Penjuru Road

Dymon Asia Temasek-linked firm investment

2014

Dymon Asia Temasek-linked firm invested amount $15m

Singapore’s 3rd Desalination Plant Project

2015

Awarded Singapore’s Third Desalination Plant project at Tuas. Joint-venture with JGC for Naphtha Liquid Terminal.
